Term: Sight Size

Sight size is a drawing technique that requires the artist to position himself relative to the subject so that both the subject and the image being drawn appear to be the same size. In other words, in a sight size portrait the drawing would look the exact same size on paper as the subject appeared in reality to the artist. This approach to drawing allows the artist to directly compare what he sees with the artwork being created, without having to scale the image up or down.
