Term: Dry Brush

A technique where very little paint is placed on a brush, and the brush is pressed lightly on a surface to create an area of broken color. In watercolor the pigment is removed from the brush by squeezing the bristles. With this technique the new color adheres only to the high spots on the surface so that traces of old color are still visible.
