Term: Impressionism

French art movement of the late 19th century where scenes were depicted by strokes of unmixed colors to give the impression of reflected light, or to give an impression of the view rather than an accurate, photographic-like representation. The impression is usually shown as an image with simple masses of color, painted with big brushstrokes without much detail, often with soft edges between the masses. Impressionist images often have high-chroma dabs of color that resolve into a larger blurry image.
