Term: Line Drawing

A drawing made with nothing more than straight and curved lines. The lines are most often used to represent boundaries and edges rather than values or shading, although shading can be implied through the use of interior lines. Line drawings may also be called outline or contour drawings if the exterior edges of objects are highlighted. Lines will have a constant width if they are created using a pencil or pen; they may also have varying widths if created with a brush or engraving tool.
