A term used to describe oil
paints possessing a high proportion of oil relative to
pigment or other
binders. Paint right out of the tube is considered fat but can be made fatter by adding more oil or painting
mediums rich with oil. In contrast, lean paint is one with less oil or where more
solvent has been added than oil (this is the case when you dilute the paint from the tube with turpentine).
