Quote: Painting From Photography Doesn't Go

"I’ve tried creating a painting from photography, but it didn’t go because a slide is such a scientific, chemical, mechanical reproduction of nature, and when you’re out there, the whole thing comes upon you. All around me I’m enveloped, and I feel the influence, the emotional impact of it. If you start on a picture at that certain hour, that’s the time to paint it—under a certain light condition. Everything in landscape is the light that envelops it, and you know it changes as the sun goes west."
